Home Battery Comparison
Suntrix is pleased to offer you a choice of products from leading battery brands – Sonnen, Alpha-ESS and Tesla. Review our Home Battery comparison table and refer to the information provided underneath to help determine the best battery storage solution to meet your requirements.
Recommended PV size | It’s important to have the right size solar system on your roof so you can achieve year-round performance from your battery. We’ve provided some recommendations based on a typical home’s solar and battery requirements. |
Minimum PV size | This is the minimum size solar system recommended for each battery. Your battery should typically perform well in summer but would provide minimal battery storage in winter. You may choose to upgrade your solar system as part of the battery installation to get better results year-round. |
Back-up capacity | All the batteries provide backup during a blackout but some will power more devices than others. Eg. the Alpha-ESS and Tesla can power 5kW in total which could include your LED lighting, televisions and washing machine |
Back-up switching time | When a blackout occurs, some batteries take longer than others to switch over and restore power to your home. Eg. the Alpha-ESS acts as an Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) whereas your home may lose power momentarily with the other batteries |
Back-up capability | Some batteries can only charge from your solar system whilst there is grid-power to your house (ie. not during a blackout) |
Rated inverter power | This shows how fast your battery can charge and discharge. Eg. the Alpha-ESS and Tesla batteries will charge faster than the Sonnen battery |
Smart weather forecasting | Some batteries have technology to forecast severe weather events and automatically increase the amount of energy stored in the battery, so you will have more power available if a blackout occurs due to the weather event. |
Warranty | Batteries have product and performance warranties and they can differ amongst battery suppliers. Some performance warranties are based on a time period and others are determined by cycles (a Sonnen cycle is a full charge and discharge of the battery). |
IP protection | According to the CEC guidelines for the installation of battery energy storage systems, any equipment exposed to an outdoor environment must be at least IP 54. Hence the Sonnen battery must be installed indoors (eg. a garage) |
