Suntrix, which also won the Medium Business Award, offers a turnkey solution focusing on solar expertise, value products and personalised customer service. Husband and wife team, Jenny Paradiso and David Hille launched the residential, commercial and wholesale business in 2009. Telstra judges cited Suntrix’ educational ‘extra effort’ as the company’s winning advantage.

“We provide value-added services such as solar advice and design, energy auditing and energy load profiling for our clients,” says MD, Jenny Paradiso. “Our aim has always been to educate and inform to ensure every person has a clear understanding of how solar will work within their environment and the benefits it will offer.”

Suntrix has also developed a ground-mounted tracking unit, Suntrax, which can provide up to 40% more output than other solar systems.

Other businesses honored by Telstra include another energy company, Off-Grid Energy Australia, a designer, supplier and installer of stand-alone power and grid battery storage technologies; Adelaide business advisers BRS; and Synotronics, an electronics design business specialising in environmental and scientific instrumentation.

The Regional Business Award was taken out by Richard Gunner’s Fine Meats. The business developed from a cattle property on the Coorong into an integrated ‘paddock to plate’ meat business, running butcher shops and retail stores across Adelaide and Victor Harbor and supplying restaurants throughout Australia.

Will Irving, Telstra Business Group Managing Director and Ambassador for the Telstra Australian Business Awards, says the strong customer focus by Suntrix set it apart from its competitors and contributed to its success.

“The judges were impressed by Suntrix’s ethical focus on customer service and its commitment to full and ongoing service,” he says. “Suntrix’ strong business practices and planning, along with its ability to diversify within retail, commercial and wholesale markets, was another contributing factor to its win tonight.”

The Telstra Australian Business Awards were launched in 1992 to recognise the achievements of SME businesses and to share their growth ideas and strategies in a way that benefits the wider business community.

“We are thrilled each year to learn about businesses that innovate, persevere and thrive, even through tough economic conditions, and I encourage South Australians to nominate businesses now for the 2014 awards,” Will Irving says.
